Frequently Asked Questions

What types of mouth piercings are there?
Common mouth piercings include labret (centre lower lip), Monroe and Madonna (upper lip sides), medusa (upper lip centre), jestrum (vertical upper lip), snake bites (paired lower lip), angel bites (paired upper lip), and smiley (upper frenulum).

What jewellery is used for mouth piercings?
Most mouth piercings use 16G (1.2mm) flat-back labret studs. The flat disc sits inside the mouth against the gum, while the decorative end shows externally. Titanium is recommended for oral piercings due to its biocompatibility.

How do you care for a mouth piercing?
Rinse with alcohol-free saline mouthwash after eating and drinking for the first few weeks. Avoid spicy, acidic or very hot foods during initial healing. Clean the external side with sterile saline solution twice daily. Avoid touching or rotating the jewellery.
