Implant Grade Titanium Piercings

Titanium conch earrings are designed for the conch — the large, concave area of cartilage in the centre of the ear. Every conch earring at Camden Body Jewellery is made from implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136), a medical-grade alloy that is nickel-free, biocompatible and trusted by professional piercers for this cartilage-heavy location. The conch is one of the thickest areas of ear cartilage, so lightweight, high-quality material is important for comfortable healing and long-term wear.

This collection includes titanium conch earrings in two main categories: hoops and studs. Conch hoops — hinged segment rings and seamless continuous rings — wrap around the outer edge of the ear from the conch piercing, creating a striking orbital effect. Conch studs (flat-back labrets) sit within the conch bowl itself for a more subtle, understated look. Both are pierced at 16G (1.2mm) as standard.

For conch hoops, inner diameter is critical. The hoop needs to be large enough to travel from the conch piercing over the outer rim of the ear. Common conch hoop sizes are 10mm, 12mm and 14mm, depending on your ear anatomy. For conch studs, a 6mm or 8mm post length is typical for healed piercings. Use the filters below to narrow by size, style and colour.

Titanium is approximately 40% lighter than surgical steel, reducing pressure on the thick conch cartilage. The metal is waterproof, corrosion-resistant and maintains its finish indefinitely. All titanium conch earrings are available in natural polished silver and PVD-coated gold, rose gold, black and other colours.

Conch Piercing Care

Conch piercings typically take 9 to 12 months to fully heal. During healing, avoid sleeping on the pierced side, clean with sterile saline spray and wait until fully healed before switching from a stud to a hoop. Once healed, the conch is a fantastic location for statement clickers and larger hoops.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size hoop do I need for a conch piercing?
Conch hoops need to be large enough to travel from the piercing inside the ear over the outer rim. Common sizes are 10mm, 12mm and 14mm depending on your ear anatomy. A piercer can measure your ear to recommend the ideal diameter.

Should I get a stud or hoop for my conch?
Most piercers recommend healing with a flat-back stud for the first 9 to 12 months, then switching to a hoop once fully healed. Studs sit securely during healing while hoops can move and cause irritation.

Is a conch piercing painful?
The conch passes through one of the thickest areas of ear cartilage, so it can be more intense than a helix or lobe piercing. The piercing itself takes only seconds and the sharp sensation passes quickly.
