Unlike the soft tissue of the earlobe, cartilage requires jewellery that is lightweight, hypoallergenic and precisely sized to avoid pressure, irritation and prolonged healing times. Every cartilage earring at Camden Body Jewellery is made from implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136), the safest material available for cartilage piercings.

Cartilage piercings are typically pierced at 16G (1.2mm), the standard gauge for upper ear jewellery. You will find a full range of styles here: hinged segment rings that click securely into place, seamless continuous rings for a minimal look, flat-back labret studs that sit flush against the back of the ear for comfortable sleeping, and threadless push-pin earrings that snap together without any screwing. Each style suits different cartilage placements and aesthetic preferences.

The right diameter depends on your specific piercing and ear anatomy. Smaller 6mm hoops hug the cartilage tightly for a snug, delicate look, while 8mm and 10mm options provide more visible curvature. For flat-back studs, a 6mm post length is standard for healed cartilage piercings, with longer options available if your piercing is still settling. Use the filters below to narrow by piercing location, hoop diameter, colour or jewellery type to find the exact piece you need.

Implant-grade titanium is recommended by professional piercers for cartilage because it is nickel-free, biocompatible and significantly lighter than surgical steel. Lighter jewellery reduces pressure on the cartilage, which helps prevent irritation bumps and supports faster healing. Titanium is also fully waterproof and resistant to tarnishing, so your cartilage earrings maintain their appearance through daily wear, showering and exercise.

Cartilage Piercing Care

Cartilage piercings typically take between 6 and 12 months to fully heal, longer than lobe piercings due to the reduced blood flow in cartilage tissue. During this period, clean twice daily with sterile saline spray and avoid sleeping directly on the pierced side. Once healed, you can freely change between different cartilage earring styles — experiment with stacking multiple pieces along the helix rim or mixing metals across different cartilage piercings for a curated ear arrangement.

Explore related collections:

Helix Piercing Jewellery — the most popular cartilage piercing along the upper ear rim

Tragus Piercing Jewellery — studs and small hoops for the tragus cartilage

Conch Piercing Jewellery — hoops and clickers for the inner ear cartilage

Rook Piercing Jewellery — curved barbells and clickers for the rook

Flat Back Earrings — labret studs ideal for comfortable cartilage wear

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of earring is best for cartilage piercings?
Flat-back labret studs in implant-grade titanium are recommended for healing cartilage piercings as they distribute pressure evenly. Internally threaded and threadless (push-fit) jewellery options reduce trauma during changing, supporting piercing longevity. ASTM F136 titanium resists saliva corrosion and oral bacterial colonisation, minimising infection risk and maintaining jewellery brilliance. Cheek piercings are complex surface piercings requiring expert anatomy assessment and precise placement; success depends on experienced piercer skill and meticulous aftercare. Titanium's superior hypoallergenic properties support rapid healing and prevent infection, while flat-back labret designs prevent intraoral trauma compared to traditional rings. Longer initial posts accommodate the significant swelling that occurs 24–72 hours post-piercing; downsizing after swelling subsides prevents discomfort and risk of accidental ingestion.

UK collectors seek cheek piercings for their dramatic facial impact and technical challenge. These surface piercings carry moderate rejection risk (10–15%) due to shallow tissue depth and constant facial movement. However, successful cheek piercings heal within 8–12 months and create stunning symmetry when paired. Healing speed depends on ASTM F136 titanium, consistent saline cleaning, minimised talking during initial weeks (to reduce movement), and careful eating habits. Once healed, flat-back labrets offer comfortable long-term wear and professional compatibility—they're nearly invisible unless smiling broadly. Push Tassels Threadless Labret in Silver - Titanium
Overall really good quality and very comfy to wear. However it took me a bit longer than expected to secure it, so I’ve knocked off one star. Still, the implant grade titanium and the fact it arrives sterilised in recyclable packaging make it an easy recommend.
