Implant Grade Titanium Piercings

Titanium belly bars are the professional-grade choice for navel piercings. Every belly bar at Camden Body Jewellery is made from implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136), a medical-grade alloy that is completely nickel-free, biocompatible and safe for both fresh and healed belly button piercings. Titanium is recommended over surgical steel for navel jewellery because the belly area is subject to constant movement, friction from clothing and exposure to sweat — conditions where lower-quality metals often cause irritation, discolouration or allergic reactions.

Belly piercings are standardly pierced at 14G (1.6mm) with a curved barbell, and all belly bars in this collection use that gauge. Curved barbells follow the natural curve of the navel, reducing pressure on the piercing channel and promoting comfortable healing. You will find styles ranging from simple polished titanium bars to decorative designs featuring CZ gems, opals, hearts, butterflies, stars and other motifs — all securely set and designed to sit flat against the stomach.

Titanium is approximately 40% lighter than surgical steel, which matters particularly for belly piercings where heavy jewellery can pull on the piercing and cause migration or rejection over time. The lightweight nature of titanium belly bars means less downward pressure on the navel, helping the piercing heal properly and stay comfortable whether you are sitting, bending or exercising. Titanium is also fully waterproof and will not react with chlorine, salt water or sweat.

All titanium belly bars are available in the natural polished silver finish, with many designs also offered in PVD-coated gold, rose gold, black and other colours. PVD coating is bonded at a molecular level and will not chip, peel or cause irritation — it is just as safe as the uncoated titanium beneath.

Belly Piercing Care

Navel piercings typically take 6 to 12 months to fully heal. During healing, wear loose-fitting clothing around the waist to minimise friction, clean twice daily with sterile saline spray and avoid submerging the piercing in pools or baths. Once healed, you can change belly bars freely and experiment with different styles and colours to match your look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are titanium belly bars better than surgical steel?
Yes. Implant-grade titanium is nickel-free, approximately 40% lighter and biocompatible. The lighter weight reduces pull on the navel piercing, and the absence of nickel eliminates the risk of allergic reactions.

What gauge is a belly bar?
The standard gauge for belly button piercings is 14G (1.6mm). All belly bars use curved barbells at this gauge.

Can I swim with a titanium belly bar?
Once your belly piercing is fully healed (typically 6 to 12 months), titanium belly bars are completely safe for swimming. Titanium is waterproof and will not react with chlorine or salt water.

How do I know if my belly bar is titanium?
Genuine implant-grade titanium (ASTM F136) is noticeably lighter than steel, has a slightly grey tone in its natural finish and will not set off metal detectors. Reputable sellers specify the exact grade.

Why is my belly bar rejecting?
Belly piercing rejection can be caused by heavy jewellery pulling on the piercing, low-quality metal causing irritation, or the piercing being too shallow. Switching to a lightweight implant-grade titanium belly bar can help reduce rejection risk.
